A Masters by Research (MRes) course allows you to achieve a postgraduate degree by undertaking a at Masters level of your choice assessed via submission of a thesis and a viva voce.
By undertaking this degree within Bournemouth University Disaster Management Centre (BUDMC) your research project will be developed in collaboration with our academic and research staff who will provide you with specialist knowledge and supervisory input, whilst accessing BU's technical facilities and information resources.
We encourage students to undertake the MRes in a specific area of interest. Areas of specialism at BUDMC include amongst others; integrated planning, major incident management, response and resilience, public health planning, foreign policy, business resilience, travel and tourism, natural hazards, entrepreneurial and resilience and innovation and continuity and simulated exercising.
Students will benefit from BUDMC experience across the world including: Africa, Asia, Middle East, Europe, Carribean and North America.
We strongly encourage collaboration across specialisms. MRes provides an opportunity to work with supervisors from a wide variety of backgrounds to deliver truly impactful research.
An Honours degree at 2:1.
If English is not your first language you’ll need IELTS 6.5 (Academic) or above.
The minimum completion time for the full-time course is 12 months with flexibility to take up to 18 months. If you would prefer to complete the course part-time, the minimum completion time is 24 months with flexibility to take up to 36 months to complete.
